Montano Assistive Technology Center


 

The center provides a State-of-the-art Interactive Learning Center for:

  • Individuals with Physical and Cognitive Limitations
  • Students with deficits in the areas of language, auditory processing, cognitive and/or academic skills.

The Center’s multi-sensory environment coupled with the latest assistive technology and software will provide participants to opportunity to recreate, communicate, and learn in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The Multi-Sensory Stimulation Environment (MSSE) will include two rooms with sensory-interactive activities that stimulate visiuditory, tactile, vestibular, proprioception, motion, cognition, and communication.

During the individual’s sensory experience he/she will interact with:

  • Swings selected according to the individual’s physical needs
  • A vibroacoustic ball pool equipped with gentle, changing, colored lights
  • A giant interactive bubble tube
  • Liquid scenes displayed on the ceiling
  • A playfloor that sends musical vibrations through the foam
  • Comfortable seating surrounded by a shimmering shower of fiber-optic strands
  • Sound effects and music by moving within an invisible elastic keyboard in space
  • Voice-activated sensory technology developed in England for the Montano Center that creates different colored blocks, flying saucers, and murals

  • Autism
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Language Delayed
  • Mentally Challenged
  • Physically Challenged
  • Neurologically Impaired
  • Hearing Impaired
  • Blind/Low Vision
The Computer Lab will contain the latest assistive technology including the EyeGaze system, touch screen monitors and programs, and communication and cognitive software including the renowned FastForWord© learning system.

Fast ForWord©by Scientific Learning

  • Based on 30 years of scientific research into the way the brain learns, Fast ForWord products have been proven to be an effective reading intervention strategy that accelerates the learning process.
  • The intensive courses will be supervised by a certified speech – language pathologist.
  • An internet based data analysis and reporting tool will be utilized to closely monitor each student’s progress.

  • Learning Disabilities
  • Language Impairments
  • Limited English Skills (English Language Learners)
  • Deficits in Auditory Processing
  • Weak phonological processing
  • Limited Academic Success
  • Dyslexia
  • ADD/ADHD

The Montano Assistive Technology Center is centrally located near CT routes 8 and 15, and located on a main city street: 2326 East Main Street Bridgeport, CT 06610. Facilities are easily accessible for those with physical disabilities.

Technological demonstrations including eye-gaze systems, voice output communication devices and switches willbe available for parent/ support staff review. A computer will be available in the waiting area for parent/supportstaff review of current educational software. Carryover programs will be available.
